On Season 2, Episode 3, we discuss the modern legend of The Black Eyed Children. There is just something terrifying about turning, what is seen as pure and inherently good, like a child, into a a horror trope. It is just so damn effective.
From the the classic creepy ones such as, Regan from the Exorcist or The Grady Twins from the Shining and more. There is definitely not a shortage of Creepy Kids in Hollywood. Here are some of our favorites, to get you into the spooky season.
1. Sam and all the Kids in Trick R Treat (2007)

Ok, so I don’t know if you can qualify Sam as an actual child, but he embodies the essence of a trick or treater, and is portrayed as a child like character for most of the film. This makes him an effectively creepy and fun character. There are also a slew of other creepy children in this film. If you have not seen this film, do yourself a favor and enjoy this perfect Halloween film, it is a must watch every Halloween for both of us here at Horror Time.
2. Dennis in Cabin Fever (2002)
This one is too hilarious not to have on the list. “PANCAKES!” Just watch the above clip and you’ll see what I mean.
3. Carol Anne Freeling in Poltergeist (1982)

This is one of the films I can credit my love of Horror to. It is a classic all the way through. Heather O’ Rourke is perfect as Carol Anne, The classic line “ They’re heeeeere” is Hollywood Gold.
4.Ghost Kids from Sinister (2012)

First off how is this movie 10 years old? But really, the ghost kids drive this film, and make it one of my favorite horror films of the last 10 years.
5. Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th (1980)

Sometimes all it takes, is one scene.
6. Georgie Denbrough from It (2017)

This interpretation of Stephen King’s It, was an instant classic. The basement scene with Georgie saying “You’ll Float too!”, Over and over? So haunting.
7. Jump Roping Girls from A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

Just the rhyme send chills down your spine. One two, Freddy’s coming for you. Three four, better lock your door…..you know the rest…..
8.Bruno Jenkins from The Witches (1990)

Another one I credit for my love of Horror.
This poor kid……He Just wanted some chocolate, instead he gets laughed at and he transforms into a mouse. This is one of the most horrific transformation scenes I have ever scene, let alone in a kids film! Love this film and it still gives me the creeps.
9. Henry in the Good Son (1993)

Honestly I think I’ve only seen this film once and that was in the 90’s. It was a strong enough performance from Macaulay Culkin , that it stuck with me, and that’s enough to make the list right there.
10.Esther, Orphan (2009)

Debated if I should put this on the list, but her performance as a creepy “child” is fantastic.
Honorable Mention: Are You Afraid of the Dark: The Tale of the Frozen Ghost (1993)

This is not a film, but it’s definitely worth mentioning. Here at Horror Time we are children of the 80’s and 90’s. The Nickelodeon Show , Are You Afraid of the Dark?, served as a gateway horror for many Millennials. It is easy to see why, it was the perfect blend of Kid friendly viewing that served up some horrific imagery for a young mind.
Seeing this ghostly child standing outside a bedroom window and saying “ I’m Cold”, is a fear I have never quite forgotten.
